They are now quoting me $500 to have the maps updated, plus $25 for registration. I'm not happy about it. I was told that a map update could be installed without my consent, although I would be issued with a new map disc, but with the same map data.
I just received an email from Mercedes Benz informing me that they have done the update to my navigation system for free and will be charging £2.50 for the first charge and £1.00 a month for the subsequent charges. The new charge of £1.00 a month equates to £18.00 over the full three years of the warranty.
Moving onto BMW's, they do offer a free map update. I have had my BMW 3.0 since 2011 and when I enquired about the update being free, I was quoted $150 as it would take a couple of hours to install, fit, test and then wait for the car to be back at the dealership. I had a check in my hand within 20 minutes.
The point of this whole post is that whenever you get quoted for a new transmission, you should make sure that it is included in the cost of any quote. The statement from Porsche that is displayed on the screen is old and should be removed. If Porsche quoted me $600 for an update, let's get it done for a $150. I don't need a couple of weeks to get my car back on the road, so let's do it today.
We apologise for the inconvenience, however can say that we have now updated the sat nav in all Discovery, Range Rover and Land Rover Sport models to include these additional features. The map update has now been included in the new SmartKey software with systems available in the UK and Europe.
