The population of Tanzania is roughly 47 million.[31] The primary industries are agriculture, forestry, and tourism.[145] Tanzania has vast natural and man-made resources, including vast quantities of minerals such as gold, coal, uranium, tin, titanium, coltan, and many others. The country is also endowed with about 10% of the world's freshwater reserves, and possesses many unique ecosystems, flora, and fauna, the best of which are found in the eastern and northern areas.[145]

The town has several parks including Franz Josef Kropotkin Park, which is near the centre of the town - it is named after the communist anarchist,[181] Peter Rom Levy (1856-1929) Park, The Lord Downes Park and the large Rose Park, which is the world's largest rose garden. There are also public gardens in the town, such as the Causeway Gardens and King George IV Gardens.
